1. Is it safe to use my credit card online at greatlakesflies.com?

Using your credit card to shop at greatlakesflies.com is extremely safe. We are an authorised vendor of 2checkout.com and therefore 2checkout.com handles all payment transactions directly and securely as our reseller.
Even our employees at Great Lakes Fishing Flies don't have access to your credit card information.

2. How long will it take for me to receive my order?

We normally keep limited stock of ready flies due to the diversity of the patterns and the wear and tear. We stock most fly materials and tie the flies on order. This also has the advantage of getting flies that are strong and durable because they are newly tied.

The shipping durations given on the shipping&returns page are from the date of dispatch of the order. The date of dispatch is normally 1 day after the preparation and packing period. The standard preparation & packing duration for our flies are as follows:
1-50 dozens (allow 7 days for preparation and packaging)
51 to 300 dozens (allow 14 days for preparation and packaging)
301 to 500 dozens (allow 21 days for preparation and packaging)
501 to 1000 dozens (allow 30 days for preparation and packaging)

Over 1000 dozens (we shall agree with the buyer on delivery schedules as per above time-lines)


The above are standard time-lines but if there are any other factors we shall notify you in advance of any possible delays.

Preparation and packaging delays may be caused by:

i) The pattern of flies you have ordered - some pattens like the Bass bugs, the Hoppers and a few other patterns need more time to tie.
ii) The quantities orders - since our flies are handmade and we cant aticipate the quantities, large orders will result in some delays but we shall communicate and update you constantly.
iii ) Non-standard patterns- non-standard patterns may require special materials or tying techniques and this may cause some delays. In the event that your order must be specially made, you will be contacted by e-mail and informed of the nature of the delay and the expected time frame for shipment of your order.

Shipping and delivery delays delays may be caused by:
i) Goods being held by customs in country of destination.
ii) Wrong or incomplete shipping address
iii) Festive season times - In some occasions such as Christmas there could be delays in the delivery of your product because the mail is overloaded and always take some days more to deliver the packages and more so when the packages are for international deliveries like in our case.

3. How will you ship my order?

We give you 4 options for shipping your order as follows:


i. Express Mail Service (EMS) Courier

ii. One World Courier - an international courier service

iii. Fedex International - Economy

.4. How do I track my orders?

i. As soon as we dispatch your order, we will provide you with all the details including the Tracking Number & Tracking URL for you region as per the chosen method

ii. You can also present this Tracking Number to your local Mail Service Company to assist you in tracking the parcel.

ii. If you have any challeges you can also contact us directly on our.info@greatlakesflies.com and we will provide you with any information regarding the delivery status of your order.

iii. Please don't worry if your tracking number does not work for the first 6 hours or so as this is normal. After 6 hours or so you will be able to get information on the tracking pages above on the shipment progress of your package

5. Can I pay for fishing flies order by money transfer or bank transfer?

You can pay by money transfer or by bank transfers in cases where your order is a special request for patterns that are not on our website or if you are placing a large wholesale order.

6. Can I make a special request for a certain fishing flies pattern?

Yes, we can tie any fly pattern. For more information contact us to sales@greatlakesflies.com and in your request, please include much information as possible including photos of the fly pattern that you would like us to tie for you.

7. What is greatlakesflies' policy on fair trade and the payment of artisans?

One of our main business purpose is to mainting a sustainable trade and employment for the Kenyan families that have kept the fly tying tradition, a tradition that was inherited from the British and other Erupean settlers from the early 1900s.
Great Lakes Fishing Flies is a equal and fair employer and it contracts the fly tying artists on this basis. We then market and sell the fishing fly products online and a big portion of the proceeds contributes to payment of salaries and wages and thereby improving the artists' and their families' livelihood. Furthermore, the fly tying artists remain independent and free to determine their pay for the work done within competitive rates. We do not employ minors or use child labour in tying our fishing fly products.

8. What is your policy on returns and exchanges?

If you are dissatisfied with your order for any reason, you can return your items for a prompt refund or exchange. Refunds for items returned within 15 days of the purchase date will be credited in full (excluding shipping charges) in the same payment form and currency as the original payment.

9. What if I do not receive my order?

Be sure to indicate the correct mailing address when you are filling out your order form.Great Lakes Fishing Flies will not be held liable for items that are lost or misplaced due to incorrect address or change of address.
If you have not received your order and would like to check the status, please contact our Customer Service Department at sales@greatlakesflies.com (be sure to note your order number and e-mail address, and verify the correct shipping address). A customer support representative will check our records and assist you on tracking your parcel.

10. Will you ever give out my personal information to third parties?

Great Lakes Fishing Flies wholeheartedly respects your privacy and thus will never release any business or personal information (including your home address, e-mail address, and phone number) to any third party.

Since all of our fishing tackle products are individually handmade, all measurements given must be considered as approximations, and minor imperfections and slight variations in color or design from items depicted should be expected.

13. Shipping & Delivery Disclaimer

Greatlakes Fishing Flies and /or www.greatlakesflies.com or their subsidaries shall not be held responsible for Orders not received because the buyer provided wrong shipping address or has moved from the address provided during the ordering process.
We send all our parcels by international couriers which means that someone has to receive the package and sign for it. Where you realise that you or your representative will not be available at the address that you provide during the ordering process then contact us immediately at sales@greatlakesflies.com (before we dispatch the goods) and change the shipping address, failure to which we shall not be responsible if you do not receive your order.
In the event where you change addresses and do not inform us then again we shall not be held responsible if you do not receive your order.
The courier companies will try to deliver the package twice to the address that was provided when placing the order and also try to contact the address by the phone number provided at the time of ordering. If no one is available at the address and no one answers the phone number provided at ordering then Greatlakes Fishing Flies and /or www.greatlakesflies.com will not be held responsible if you do not receive your order.

Greatlakes Fishing Flies and /or www.greatlakesflies.com only charges customers what it costs us to ship products to you. It is your responsibility to determine any additional costs such as, but not limited to customs import duties, brokerage fees, local delivery charges, etc. Greatlakes Fishing Flies and /or www.greatlakesflies.com will make every effort to value shipments as low as we can and we normaly mark our shipments as "Samples" while reporting enough value to cover insurance on shipments that have insurance. If a package is refused for any reason and returned to us, any subsequent delivery charges will NOT be refunded. If customer provides an invalid address when ordering, all shipping charges are the customer’s responsibility including fees charged to Greatlakes Fishing Flies and /or www.greatlakesflies.com to have the package returned to us, and re-shipment fees to return the package to you if you so choose.
Please note that many packages are delayed by customs in the receiving country, so shipping times are estimates.
